Alesea startup launches its digital cable management device in pilots on three continents, supporting customers’ remote working in this

Now more than ever in the aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdown, cable producers are seeking to digitalize their processes to benefit of their customers.
Inventory management has now become digitalized with Alesea, launched by Prysmian Group in collaboration with its innovation hub Corporate Hangar, an IoT solution that offers real-time access to information for smarter and easier cable inventory management.

“Alesea transforms cable drums from mere packaging into smart assets. This tool will enable us to support our partners by helping them improve their performance in terms of operational efficiency and sustainability. This digital solution for the cable industry further confirms that the Group is at the forefront in terms of innovation.”

Prysmian Group Executive Vice President Energy Business

Alesea is a smart device installed on the cable drum, interacting with a cloud infrastructure where data about the drum’s location and content is stored and processed. Alesea is equipped with a GPS locator, environmental and movement sensors, and multinetwork mobile communications providing worldwide coverage. The system lets users monitor their cable drum location at all times; check for potential cases of theft and tampering; track delivery and usage; and keep on top of the amount of cable available through an easy to use interface on smartphone or computer.
That means builders can stay a step ahead of stock management and avoid unplanned shortages on their worksite. Avoiding sudden shortages can be particularly problematic when worksites are in remote areas.

With pilots on three continents and more than 20,000 information packages sent, Alesea is supporting Prysmian's largest customers in maximising their cable asset management efficiency. Alesea offers companies three advantages. It is able to provide full inventory management service, while also contributing to reducing the total cost of cable management, through better asset use and greater operating efficiency. That means the drums will always be in the right place at the right time, avoiding costly delays. In addition, the device is installed during the cable manufacturing phase, so that no intervention is required in the field.
Lastly, it lessens environmental impact through optimised logistics and keeping cable waste and scrap to a minimum. Alesea clients can receive an estimation of how many trees are saved by using the device, because Alesea helps companies reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By making the transport of empty drums more efficient, Alesea helps companies cut down on pollution. And less cable waste and scrap mean less CO2 emissions during production.
Innovations like Alesea are integral to Prysmian’s approach, allowing the Group to anticipate the market’s needs and meet customers’ requirements with increasingly innovative solutions. Use electronics alongside cables to provide more services and more intelligence to our customers is part of this approach.

“With Alesea Prysmian confirms its leadership in enhancing the cable system offering with value added services. This smart IoT solution supports customers' inventory management digitalization and improvement and this is important now more than ever in the aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdown”
