Following an analysis of the single mode optical fibres market, Business and Market consultants Frost & Sullivan recently recognised Prysmian Group’s BendBrightXS with the 2015 European Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product In

Each year, Frost & Sullivan identifies innovative products, technologies, companies, and individuals. The aim is to promote global economic and to provide encouragement and support to innovators. The annual Award for New Product Innovation is given to a company that has developed an innovative element in a product by leverage leading-edge technologies.

The award, presented to Prysmian during a ceremony in London, recognises the value added features/benefits of the product and the increased Return On Investment it offers customers.

BendBrightXS is a significant innovation in single-mode optical fibres, as it secures the full spectrum to transmit much larger amounts of data than competing technologies. BendBrightXS greatly minimises cable attenuation, even in densest designs, through extra resilience to the microbending losses. Using Prysmian's innovation, new optical cable designs can hold more than 1,000 fibres in a cable of some 20 mm in diameter. As a reference, copper cables of the same diameter can accomodate only 200 pairs.

Decreased dimensions, enhanced efficiency

"BendBrightXS simultaneously decreases the dimension of cables and enhances the efficiency of data transmission," said Avimanyu Basu, Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst. "By increasing the density of the optical fibres in the cable, it supports two-way communication in the futuristic smart grid model, offering an effective way to fibre-rich connections that will back all new generation data-intensive networks. The bend radii in fibre guidance ports, as well as in wall and corner mountings, can be reduced and properly optimised to achieve supreme performance. Further, Prysmian's proprietary glass geometry enables a close-fitting geometric specification along the entire length of the fibre, which makes BendBrightXS applicable to automated connectorisation practices."

"We are extremely proud of this award, which recognizes our global leadership in the design and manufacturing of optical fibres and innovative solutions." says Philippe Vanhille, Prysmian Group Executive Vice President, Telecom Business. "The BendBright suite of products really offers incomparable versatility and sets the scene for future innovations, offering full compliance with higher forecasted system transmission rates, higher wavelength operation, in all the transmission bands which are offered by optical fibre, securing the spectrum potential and converting it into genuine broadband."

About BendBrightXS

BendBrightXS fibre combines unprecedented low macro-bending sensitivity (G.657.A2 compliant) and industry-reference micro-bending performance while preserving all the features of regular singlemode fibre (G.652.D compliant). This solution can cost-effectively reduce cable footprint as well as manpower requirement for installation. It also offers additional easier handling in fibre management systems and splice protection devices.

BendBrightXS fully secures fibre’s spectral abundance, maximising its potential. Bend improvement is almost 100 times that of standard fibre.. The advanced bending behaviour is achieved by optimized glass design which limits the escape of the optical field from the core. The BendBright suite can operate with (future) higher bit rates, longer wavelengths, and any kind of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission, in all standardised bands and next generation systems.
