Ethics & Integrity of the Group

A Commitment to Ethics and Integrity

Creating an atmosphere of trust where people are empowered to make decisions with integrity is one of Prysmian’s three core values, and strong ethics has been identified by our stakeholders as a key driver in the company’s success. The Group implements this value of trust through its Code of Ethics, a guide for daily conduct for all its employees.

The Code of Ethics is in line with the best international practices and implements the principles of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Rights, and of the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Fundamental Conventions.

Integrity for all Three Pillars of the Sustainability

Prysmian’s Code of Ethics is based on three pillars: Ethics in business activity, Ethics in internal relations, Ethics in environmental and social areas. In addition to its Code of Ethics, the Group has specific policies related to individual areas.

Ethics in business

Applying the concept of ethics in business means respecting the rules and standards of transparency and competition. Our Antitrust Code of Conduct lays out clear principles to deal with competitors and tenders, and how to avoid anti-competitive behavior. Prysmian’s Anti-Bribery Policy aims to prevent corruption by prohibiting bribery of both public officials and private individuals. Prysmian seeks to create an anti-corruption culture within the company by taking actions including i) mandatory due diligence on all new agents, distributors and other relevant third parties including suppliers; ii) internal training; and iii) special software systems and data bases to mitigate said risk.

Respecting our people

At Prysmian, intellectual capital and talent development represent strategic assets: the foundation of the Company's future growth. Precisely for this reason, the Human Resources Department believes that the promotion of diversity is a strategic objective and aims to increase the presence of a diverse population at all levels of the organization. The global diversity hiring policy aims to support the creation of a more balanced recruitment pipeline, in which diversity is represented in all its forms.

Responsibility towards the environment and communities

Prysmian seeks to be environmentally responsible both in terms of its products and how they are manufactured. It calculates the C02 footprint of individual cables and adopts HSE management systems to manage and reduce its energy consumption and greenhouse gases emissions in several countries around the globe. It encourages responsible use of resources, correct disposal of waste and promotes social projects that help develop local communities where it operates

Prysmian Group’s Human Rights Policy applies to the physical and legal boundaries of the Group’s business activities and operations, in addition to the workers of independent contractors when present in the Group’s venues and plants. It is based on the International Labor Organization’s Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and it covers the following topics: Non-Discrimination; Child Labor; Forced, bonded and compulsory labor; Freedom of association and recognition of the right and collective bargaining; Health & Safety; Working conditions; Fair wages and equal compensation; Grievance mechanisms; and Commitment towards local communities.

The Human Rights Policy sets out grievance procedures in the case of violations, and encourages employees to report issues to its Whistleblowing Policy. The Group’s Compliance department monitors the implementation and respect of the Code of Ethics and other relevant policies.

Prysmian Group is committed to the development of an organization that prioritizes talent, abilities, diverse experiences, different cultural backgrounds, and, in general all forms of diversity.

Accordingly, in February 2021 Prysmian Group adopted an Anti-harassment policy which is an Appendix of the Human Rights policy. The purpose of this policy is to create a safe working environment, free from any type of discrimination and any sort of violence or harassment, either sexual or based on personal, cultural and political diversity.

The Anti-Harassment policy lays out a definition of harassment, vilification, intimidation, and bullying, and sets out both informal and formal reporting procedures. Employees are encouraged to use the Helpline policy to outline ways in which concerns related to the violation or potential violation of the Prysmian Group Code of Ethics, or any other Company policy or procedure, can be reported. Any person needing to report an issue can contact the Integrity First Helpline center (by mail, telephone or Internet) or, as an alternative, the Regional Compliance Leader, Legal or HR business partner.

Sustainability is in our DNA and is an integral part of our business across the Group’s entire organisation. One of the sustainability’s goals is to contribute to the socio-economic development of the communities in which we operate, aware of the effects that our business can generate on the countries and economies in which we carry out our business.

It has therefore decided to adopt two new Policies: Donations and Sponsorships including all the measures designed to meet the needs of communities and civil society, in line with the vision, mission, values,  Code of Ethics, Social Ambition and Policies put in place by the Group.
